As an alternative to the Octa Lune, Journe released the Automatique Lune in 2007 featuring a new dial layout with the hour and minute position moved to the traditional horological display format at the outer rim of the dial. The new model offered a classic, clean, easy-to-read display, and while the moon-phase and large date apertures remained the same, the Arabic hour numerals were now prominent at the periphery of the dial with the railroad minute track between them. He further refined the Automatique Lune by introducing the 2nd iteration (AL2) which incorporated a later date aperture and moon phase display for legibility – no doubt after feedback from vision-challenged clients – as well as a larger crown. The Havana iteration of the Automatique lune features a warm, “tobacco brown” dial made of a combination of gold and ruthenium, rather than being coated or treated, created in F.P. Journe’s own in-house dial manufacture, Les Cadraniers de Genève. Combined with the warmth of the pink gold case, it exudes a richness and depth giving an utterly sumptuous effect.
