Termed an "electromechanical" movement by the brand, the Élégante contains a mechanical motion detector. This is what's visible on the dial at 4 o'clock. When the Élégante remains motionless for 35 minutes, it goes into a standby mode where the mechanical parts of the watch, such as the hands, stop. However, a microprocessor within the movement continues to keep time and as soon as motion is detected again, the hands move back to the correct time. This preserves energy and puts a specifically "Journe" experience on what could otherwise be a standard quartz watch.
