The watch has never been worn (apart from display) and retains its original sticker on its case-back. This model boasts an orange dial (regarded by many divers as the best colour for underwater visibility), white Roman numerals and hands, a central seconds hand, date window at 3 o’clock, a rotating calibrated bezel and a screw-down back with Kontiki medallion. It also boasts a most desirable diameter (excluding crown) of 39mm. It has a thickness of 12.8 mm and a lug width of 19 mm The watch is powered by the ETA 2824-2 movement. Eterna is of course known for ETA. ETA used to be their subsidiary company for creating movements for their own watches as well as for other brands. Best known is their Eterna-matic movement, which resulted in the Eterna logo with its five ball bearings. The ETA 2824-2 is perhaps one of the most well-known and most recognized movements in the watch industry. It has been in production since 1982 and was based off of the original Eterna caliber 1427. The “-2” designation indicates that it is the 2nd generation in the evolution of the movement. It uses 25 jewels, has a bear rate of 28,800 v.p.h and a power reserve of 38 hours (when new). The watch does not come with papers/history but a new generic storage box is provided. The bracelet is full sized -no links have ever been removed so it should fit a wrist of perhaps up to 8 or 8 1/2 inches. You will need to remove links of course if your wrist is smaller. For reference, the photos show the watch on a 7 inch wrist -you can see from one photo how much "extra" there is in the bracelet. If keeping the watch I would certainly need to remove a few links for a good fit. The Eterna watch company has a long history that goes all the way back to 1856. However, it wasn’t called Eterna until 1905 (but Dr. Girard & Schild, after its founders). Before I jump to mentioning watches, ETA became part of what we know today as Swatch Group. Eterna has been in different hands since 1982 (including Porsche Design) but since a couple of years it is owned by Citychamp Watch & Jewellery Group Limited. The Eterna KonTiki watches are referring to the watches on the wrist Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl and his team during the Kon-Tiki expedition. Eterna didn’t use the name KonTiki (without the hyphen) until 1958. Since then, the KonTiki models have been in the Eterna collection. This Super Kontiki Limited Edition example was just one of 499 pieces released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Thor Heyerdahl’s 1947 Kon-tiki expedition. The watch is numbered 186/499 and I would imagine it was produced in 1997 although from its condition you would swear it was brand new!
