During this voyage, crew members wore Eterna watches, highlighting these watches’ reliability in challenging conditions. The KonTiki series was subsequently launched to commemorate this expedition, embodying Eterna’s dedication to producing robust and precise timepieces. Eterna, established in 1856, has been a pioneer in horology, in 1948 it introduced the Eterna- Matic movement with an innovative ball-bearing mounted rotor system for enhanced automatic winding efficiency. This innovation influenced the broader watchmaking industry as it was later to become a widespread technological adoption. This Kontiki Super Ref. 130 FTP has a stainless steel case measuring 40mm in diameter (excluding the original crown), offering substantial wrist presence. The case is in a good condition, it shows only normal / light traces of use, it is complete with its screw-in caseback, the serial number and the gold Kontiki medallion are still in a sharp condition, the serial is legible. Please note: this case is no longer waterproof, the crown screw-threading is worn and it does not engage the crown. The watch is fitted with a plexiglass which is in excellent condition. The original two-directional turning bezel is in a good condition, it shows light traces of use on the outer edge, but the numbers are intact and well legible. The original gilt tropicalized dial has developed a natural and unique intense brown patina, a characteristic often sought after by collectors. This aging process has resulted in a rich, warm hue that enhances the watch’s vintage appeal. At the heart of this timepiece is the Eterna caliber 1489K, an automatic movement introduced in the late 1960s. Measuring 29.4mm in diameter and 5.2mm in height, this movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 49 hours.
