Enicar was founded in 1914 by Ariste Racine as "Manufacture d`Horlogerie Enicar s.a." in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The surname of the founder spelled backwards is "Enicar". Enicar gained a good reputation through its own manufacture movements of high quality as well as through the watch series Sherpa, which was produced for extreme mountaineers. During the first Swiss expedition to Mount Everest in 1956, Enicar was the official outfitter. Due to the turbulence of the quartz crisis that shook the entire Swiss watch industry in the 1980s, Enicar went bankrupt in 1988.
