, At the time this watch was sold at Sotheby’s in May 1979, the then vendor’s family tradition stated that the watch was reputedly made for the Duchess of Bridgwater. Conyers Dunlop was free of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1733 and Master in 1758. He was based at Spring Gardens, Charing Cross. Another watch by this maker, numbered 3640, is hallmarked for 1770, suggesting this watch was made around the same period.
