Some important things to consider when buying an vintage watch. As a rule, a vintage watch always needs a complete service. Even if the watch works, it should be serviced before use, otherwise there is a risk of damaging the watch. In most vintage watches, mineral oil has been used, which over the years has dried and in some cases turned into a carbon-like hard substance. This substance will wear the axels and bearings and together with dirt, the watch will gradually wear down and eventually stop. The same applies to some extent also for cases that need to be washed in an ultrasonic bath and especially when it comes to chronographs. Push buttons, springs, crowns and gaskets need to be reviewed. Gaskets and springs may need to be replaced and syntetic oil, syntetic grease and silicone grease applied in the right places.
In summary, if you buy an unrefurbished watch that you intend to use, you also need to add to the purchase price, the cost of a complete service of movement and case. It is also preferable to choose a watchmaker with reputation and knowledge of just vintage watches do the service.
When buying a watch from us, all of this is included, as well as the fact that I always choose watches with a high quality right from the start. In the long run, this is often a better investment than doing the opposite.
