Cartier: A Rare Art Deco Ultra Slim 18 Carat Gold Open Faced Pocket Watch, signed Cartier, 1935, 19 jewels manual wound lever movement signed European Watch and Clock Co Inc Swiss , eight adjustments, bimetallic split balance, two tone engine turned silvered dial signed, Roman numeral hour chapter ring, outer five minute track, unusual blued steel hands, "knife edge" case with a snap-on back and engraved with initials to the centre, inside back cover with maker's mark JC for Jacques Cartier , case numbered 20500 23540 , London import gold mark for 1935, bow with French eagles head gold mark and inscribed Made in France, with fitted Cartier box 46mm wide, By repute, This watch was originally owned by Sir Henry Sessions Souttar. This watch has been in the same family since the 1930's. Sir Henry Sessions Souttar CBE FRCS (1875-1964), was a British surgeon with a wide breadth of interests. He trained first as a mathematician and engineer. His engineer’s training enabled him to design and make new types of surgical instrument and is still highly respected in the medical world today.
