To mark the relocation of the manufacture from France to Switzerland, Cartier launched its famous first historic collection in 1973: the Louis Cartier Collection. The collection started with 12 watches, which took up the designs from Cartier's early years and were produced in series in relatively small numbers. These included e. g. the classic Tank and the Santos-Dumont, the Gondole, the Baignoire, the Vandome, the Cristallor, the Ellipse and the Coussin (Bamboo). The ladies' versions were also sold in very small numbers with factory diamonds (sertissage). The exact quantities can only be estimated on the basis of the serial numbers: While Tank and Santos Dumont could well have reached 15,000, just 250 of the Coussin "Bamboo" are thought to have been produced. It is assumed that less than 1% of the ladies' models were produced with diamonds, as these were considerably more expensive. The VENDOME from the Louis Cartier Collection now for sale here with the original Cartier Pre88 folding clasp (18K) and watch box is correspondingly rare.
