Cartier White Gold Tank Louis Extra Plate on Bracelet 1970s
Released in 1917, the Cartier Tank was designed by Louis Cartier after he was inspired by the shape of the Renault tanks he saw on the Western Front during WWI. Perhaps one of the most recognizable pieces of horological design to ever be created, the Tank’s rectangular shape, svelte proportions, and timeless aesthetic have enabled it to earn a top spot within the horological hall of fame. Amongst the plethora of models that belong to this iconic collection is perhaps the purest distillation of its design, the Tank Louis Cartier. True to the original, the Tank Louis Cartier features the same classical dial and rounded case sides called “brancards” that stretch to form its lugs as the watch Louis Cartier designed all those years ago, which spawned the now-legendary collection and all of its associated models such as the Tank Francaise, Tank Cintree and so on. Offered here we have an original 1970s example of the Tank Louis in 18kt white gold on an exceedingly rare 18kt white gold bracelet. Often these examples are on leather straps, with bracelets like this most often seen in 18kt yellow gold. With its monochromatic aesthetic resulting from the entirely white gold construction and white dial this example is an understated piece of pure luxury that few will get the opportunity to experience.
THE CONSTRUCTION While often offered in yellow gold, this example is not only rare for its white gold case, but its exceedingly rare matching 18kt white gold 7-piece bracelet.
THE AESTHETIC With its exclusively 18kt white gold rectangular construction, rectangular link white gold bracelet, and classic Paris-signed white dial, this Tank Louis's monochromatic aesthetic is a true pleasure to wear.
