Its cabriolet mechanism allows the wearer to rotate the case, protecting the dial while exposing the reverse. When left in its extended position, the watch can even serve as a small desk clock. Owing to the complexity of its case construction, early production was limited. In the 1990s, Cartier resumed manufacturing the model in greater numbers, bringing the design to a wider audience. It remains one of the maison’s most distinctive creations and a piece sought after by discerning collectors. The current 18k yellow gold example hails from the 1990s and features a well maintained case with light signs of wear commensurate with age and use.
