In 1970, Cartier had a strong image as a jeweler for royalty and aristocracy. It is said that the mast tank was strategically created to expand the customer base to the general public.
While maintaining the sophisticated design and sense of luxury, Cartier succeeded in keeping the price down by using a technique called vermeil technique, in which gold is pasted on the watch. People who wanted to obtain and wear Cartier watches, which had previously been distant, became enthusiastic about them.
It is a well-known story that the Cartier Tank series was inspired by the design of a Renault-made tank (caterpillar). It is still loved around the world as a masterpiece that allows people to enjoy this complete design.
There are several types of mast tanks, and this one is an lm size model and was sold for men. This is one of the rarest of them all, with a marble dial. The color is brown. I think it was produced around the 70's and 80's because of the fact that it is a "Cal.78-1" manual-winding watch with a 2C dial.
The dial shows good age and the color remains clear. It is said that each marble dial is unique and has a different pattern. It is a pleasure to find a pattern that you like.
The watch has been overhauled and newly finished. The glass has been replaced with a new external one, so it is in very clear condition. The number of mast tanks in good condition is decreasing every year, so why don't you take this opportunity to acquire one?
