Buren – Original 1940`s B-Uhr Oversized Pilot Watch Fliegeruhr – Cal. 10 1/2

Founded in Büren an der Aare in the Swiss canton of Bern, Buren Watch Co. established itself from the 1930s as a manufacturer of in-house calibres and a respected supplier of precision wristwatches. B-Uhr watches like this one — are large-format pilot’s timepieces built to the demanding legibility, robustness, and precision standards required for air navigation. The case is chrome metal with a screw-down back, measuring 40 mm in diameter excluding the crown. It is in very good condition with only normal traces of use. The caseback screws-in firmly and carries the original serial numbers. The onion crown — the characteristic feature of 1940s pilot watch design, is in an excellent condition. The triple-thickness Plexiglass crystal is in very good condition too, it shows only light traces of use. The original black lacquered dial has large Arabic radium numerals with an outer cöosed rail minutes and seconds chapter ring. The inner rotational bezel has a triangle pointer, providing independent timing of flight legs without engaging any external mechanism. The small seconds register is at 6 o’clock. The dial has a light patina and some light traces of time consistent with its age; the luminous material is original. The movement is the Buren Calibre 10½N, a manually wound in-house calibre of 10.5 lignes (approximately 23.3 mm in diameter). The lever escapement, regulated balance with Breguet hairspring, and robust construction are consistent with the quality standard that made Buren movements suitable for military specification watches. This timepiece is fitted with a military-style NATO strap. The movement has been serviced in-house and is in good working order. It is delivered with our six-month guarantee and our originality certificate. A 1940s large-format pilot’s watch with an original dial, original luminous material, and an in-house Buren movement represents a combination that is increasingly difficult to find in an unrestored condition.
