Early Cosmonaute models are uniquely marked with the NAVITIMER label. It features the bidirectional serrated bezel that was introduced with the 2nd model of Ref. 806. The dial is a "reverse panda" design, with white sub-dials and a white bezel around the edge. The logo is printed, while the other markings use gilt printing. It is powered by the highly regarded Venus cal. 178 movement, with the sub-dials displaying a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, and a continuous seconds counter at 9 o'clock. The case retains its original proportions remarkably well, with uniformly cut lugs and a sharp bezel edge. The black mirror dial has a perfect gloss. Given that this watch is not water-resistant, finding a Navitimer or Cosmonaute in such good condition is extremely rare. The white inner bezel shows minimal aging, and the sub-dials and hands remain in their original, pristine condition. The movement is in excellent shape, having been serviced by our shop, with a power reserve of over 48 hours and fully functional chronograph operations. This model was worn by astronaut Scott Carpenter during his historic 1962 mission, when he became the second American to orbit the Earth. The large, commanding presence of this watch epitomizes the pilot watches of the space exploration era. BRAND The Breitling Navitimer with a 24-hour dial was the first Breitling watch to go to space, strapped to the inside of astronaut Scott Carpenter's glove during his mission. Carpenter, who had worn a 12-hour Navitimer during the Korean War as a combat pilot, suggested in 1959 the creation of a 24-hour Navitimer. This watch holds historical significance for Breitling, representing a key milestone in the brand's legacy.
