In mint condition condition. Weight: 125.5 gr. Thanks to the distinctive design, that definitely turned iconic over the years, the watch has a high recognition value. The Chronomat's silhouette is very similar to that of an airplane.
Interesting details:
- The 1884 on the dial refers to the year in which Léon Breitling founded the Swiss Watch Brand. Breitling is known to concentrate on the production of special timepieces and measuring instruments for sports and aeronautics.
- The Frecce Tricolori, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force, made sure the Chronomat met their exceptionally stringent specifications. As a result it is remarkably rugged, instantly legible and functional.
- The rotating bezel is fitted with rider tabs that are intended to memorize time and facilitate rotation, even with flight gloves. The rider tabs at 15 and 45 can be unscrewed, and inverted, making it possible for the user to choose between a timer (in flight for example) and a countdown (regatta) function.
- An added benefit is that the raised tabs markers on the bezel help to protect the sapphire crystal against shocks and blows. A tiny “logo B” is engraved in the side of the bezel (see photo), as a means of authentication.
According to a recent Chrono24 publication, Breitling is one of the two brands that has experienced a strong increase in value in the second quarter of 2024. This while in the overall market there has been a slight decline in prices.
