CASE: in very good and attractive condition with strong proportions, well-defined coin-edged bands, and crisp hallmarks on the back. There is light surface wear visible with the naked eye when closely examining the watch. DIAL: in excellent condition. Considered one of the most prestigious complications in horology, the tourbillon was invented by no other than the famous watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet. He patented his invention on June 26th, 1801. Other makers and brands have since adapted the ingenious mechanism which was developed to make watches more accurate. By mounting the escapement and balance wheel in a rotating cage, the effects of gravity when keeping the watch in a certain position are negated. In other words, the tourbillon averages out errors from different positioning of the watch. The present example by Breguet plays tribute to its namesake inventor and beautifully displays the complicated tourbillon mechanism at 6 o'clock. It is further equipped with a sophisticated perpetual calendar with leap-year indication, rightfully making this Breguet a grand complication. It is further skeletonized and therefore showcases the astonishing movement and its decorations from both sides. Offered with its Certificate of Authenticity and presentation case, the lot has been further retained in very attractive condition with very light wear only.
