In 1858, he decided to venture away from his family and established the Galerie de Valois boutique in Palais Royal, Paris. His brought his expertise in clothing into his gold jewellery designs which attracted a large clientele. In 1863, Paul LeGrand joined the company as chief designer at the House of Boucheron 1863 - 1867, and again from 1871 – 1892. LeGrand is credited with the idea of combining pearls with diamond rondelles, first seen in Boucheron products in 1889. The "rondelle" cut of diamonds was pioneered by Bordinckx, who was also associated with Boucheron Frédéric Boucheron created his atelier in 1866 and a year later won the Gold Medal during the International Exposition of 1867.
