Blancpain Ref. 5335

An elegant and complicated platinum minute repeater perpetual calendar wristwatch with moonphase and case made by Jean-Pierre Hagmann. Circa 1990, in the wake of its groundbreaking automatic minute repeater ref. 0035, Blancpain took a bold yet characteristically elegant step further by uniting the repeater with a perpetual calendar, creating the remarkable reference 5335. By combining the automatic minute repeater calibre 35 with the perpetual calendar module 53, Blancpain succeeded in housing two of watchmaking’s most demanding complications within a restrained 34 mm case—a masterclass in classical proportions and technical confidence. The dial is a study in balance and restraint, featuring a harmonious triple-register layout with a deep-set moon phase at 6 o’clock. Clean, legible, and quietly sophisticated, the design places symmetry and clarity at its core. The platinum case was crafted by the legendary Jean-Pierre Hagmann, whose work is celebrated not only for its refined aesthetics but also for its exceptional acoustic qualities. His coveted JHP hallmark further elevates the watch’s desirability, while the repeater slide is ingeniously integrated into the case, remaining discreet and unobtrusive. Numbered 19, the present platinum example is a rare and compelling expression of Blancpain’s “six masterpieces” era, bringing together mechanical virtuosity and timeless elegance in a manner that feels both intellectually serious and effortlessly cool.
