Benrus Type 1 MIL-W-50717

Description

Benrus Type 1 - Rare

When thinking of the most iconic military watches ever produced, it would be hard not to place the Benrus Type 1 in the top 5 on the list (up there with the Rolex MilSub, Tornek-Rayville etc.). The unique and ergonomic asymmetrical case shape of these watches went on to influence later mil-spec pieces from the 70s to today. Perhaps most noteworthy is its pure and well-laid-out dial design, which we believe holds its own against the brilliance of the Rolex Explorer 1. This particular example was issued in April of 1979 and remains in fantastic vintage condition. The dial and hands are phenomenally well-preserved and boast a warm and attractive patina. The case has light signs of use and the "dimple"-signed crown is correct. Notably, the bezel insert remains in great shape with light signs of wear and no cracks. This piece even retains its original crystal which shows some light crazing, adding welcome character to a watch that's meant to carry its story with it. Dial: Fantastic preservation with no notable blemishes under magnification. All of the tritium plots have aged to a beautiful warm patina and match the hands nicely. Bezel: There are some surface level chips and scratches but they are minimal and not distracting. Overall, very well preserved for its age and devoid of cracks. Hands: Are matching and all of their lume is stable. Case: Normal signs of use consistent with age and no distracting wear. Correct "dimple" signed crown. Bracelet: Single pass NATO-style strap in tan. Crystal: Is correct and displays some crazing. The recently serviced movement is winding and running well on our timegrapher.
