The brand Baume & Mercier was founded in 1918. The lead-up to its establishment began in 1834, when brothers Louis Victor and Pierre-Joseph Célestin Baume founded the Société Frères Baume. Two generations later, it is descendant William Baume who, on November 26, 1918, together with watchmaker and jeweler Paul Mercier, establishes Baume & Mercier; the brand is based in Geneva. Baume & Mercier came under the ownership of the prestigious Piaget in 1965, survived the crisis in the watch industry (early 1980s) by focusing on quartz watches, and has been part of the Groupe Richemont (including Cartier) since 1993. The collection now also includes numerous models with mechanical movements.
