The artist's death in October 2022 gives this limited edition a new dimension, honoring his memory and his indelible imprint on art. A painter of light and matter, the work of Pierre Soulages represents a challenge to reproduce on a small scale. This technical feat was met in part with the help of 3D to render a surface texture close to that of the canvas. As Soulages wished, light is drawn onto the dial by the golden lines on each hand, so that "black becomes less black and its surface states more present, more active", as he put it. The work from which the watchmaker drew its inspiration is an Outrenoir painting by Pierre Soulages, entitled "Peinture 390 x 130 cm 17 mars 2019", which was donated to the Soulages Museum in Rodez in 2020 to celebrate the painter's centenary.
