Simon Rochard, (1788-1872) was a well known miniature portrait artist. Rochard was born in Paris and schooled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts where he studied under J.B.J Augustin. Among Rochard's most famous commissions is the portrait miniature of the Duke of Wellington for the King of Spain prior to the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Following this, he moved to London and established himself as the favourite miniature portraitist of the Aristocracy. He remained in London from 1814-1845 where he exhibited at the Royal Academy, Society of British Artists and the New Watercolour Society. He moved to Brussels in 1846.
