D80730, NO. 31, CIRCA 1990s Movement: Manual Dial: Silvered Case: 33 mm. wide, 40.5 mm. overall length With: Platinum Audemars Piguet buckle and travel case Extremely unusual and rare, the present Audemars Piguet John Schaeffer minute repeater reference 25882PT is dated to the late 1990s and wonderfully conquers the challenging task of melding the 'sportiness' with 'dressiness'. Featuring a modest but heavy 33 mm. platinum cushion-shaped case, the watch wears with presence and enhanced by the luminous Arabic numerals and stick hands against the silver dial. Most importantly, this understated watch features a minute repeater with the slider on the left side of the case. Audemars Piguet and John Schaeffer From 1906 until the 1920s, Audemars Piguet manufactured approximately only 35 minute repeating wristwatches including a cushion-shaped timepiece made especially for John Wallace Schaeffer, the vice president of the Allied Chemical Corporation located in Morristown, New Jersey. Realizing his name consisted of twelve letters, the industrialist asked Audemars Piguet to customize his repeater with the letters of his name as the indexes of the watch, forever sealing history with the storied Maison. Decades later in the 1990s, the brand created an entire line of repeating wristwatches inspired by the original 'John Shaeffer' wristwatch, such as the present lot.
