This early gem setting technique is characteristic of the first generations of gem-set Royal Oak watches. The thin bezels made it challenging to set diamonds on the top without compromising the watch's water resistance. Instead, the diamonds accentuated the rounded octagonal shape while drawing attention to the eight hexagonal screws of the case. Audemars Piguet’s Archives document the sale of 27 Royal Oak 4153SA models, featuring a mix of steel and yellow gold, between 1981 and 1983. Additionally, no examples of this model appeared at major auctions between 2012 and 2022. Sales distribution: 18 units in 1981, 8 in 1982, and 1 in 1983, for a total of 27 units.
