Audemars Piguet Vintage 5222

Description

Audemars Piguet Automatic 5222 Screwback Case 18k WG

Understated in its design, the Audemars Piguet ref. 5222 is an exceptionally rare round 35mm stainless steel timepiece with one of Audemars Piguet’s rarest automatic movements powering it. Working with fellow watchmakers Jaeger LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin since the early 1960s to develop an ultra-thin automatic movement, Audemars Piguet was able to release one of the world’s thinnest automatic movements at the time, the cal. K2072. With its thin movement and screw-down caseback, the ref. 5222’s 35mm stainless steel case is both robust and capable as an everyday piece. Boasting a silver dial with stick indices, the ref. 5222 is an under-the-radar timepiece that speaks to AP's more traditionalist side. Brand : Audemars Piguet Dimensions : 35mm Model : Vintage Movement : Automatic cal. K2072 Reference : 5222 Bracelet : Leather strap Year : Circa 1960s Condition : Excellent Material : Stainless steel Included : Watch only Dial Color : Silver THE DIAL Boasting a silvered finish, applied indices, and a date aperture, this ref. 5222's display is nicely executed given its understated mid-century design. THE CONSTRUCTION Offered as a dress-style watch, the ref. 5222ST was intensely classical in its design, with a round case shape and straight lugs. Additionally, with its 35mm diameter, it wears well for modern tastes, especially given the recent move towards smaller watches.
