Pocket watch with "Hippomètre"

57mm / steel / manual winding / circa 1880 / functional. Rare, richly decorated pocket watch by Ogier Divry with a so‑called "Hippomètre" on the back. The front side shows the time of day. The back side houses the Hippomètre. The continuously moving hand makes one revolution in 15 minutes. The inner scale shows the elapsed minutes. Above it are three additional scales marked "PAS", "TROT" and "GALOP" for the horse's gaits. The distance travelled can be read directly according to the selected gait. The Hippomètre dial is adjusted via the bezel. When the horse starts, the scales must be aligned with the minute hand. Ogier Divry was a French instrument maker. An exceptionally rare watch in excellent condition.
