Some info on the watch:
The Anonimo Dino Zei San Marco is a 46.5mm PVD stainless steel tribute to the traditions of the old military contractor. More than a commemorative gesture, the watches of Anonimo Firenze were built by many of the same artisans, designed by the same engineers, and crafted on the same equipment as the old Panerai models.
Dino Zei, a former Italian naval officer and the last chief executive of military contract-era Panerai, lends his name and insights to the design of the D-Day Countdown model. As the honorary President of Anonimo Firenze, Zei’s legacy to Italian watchmaking was recognized by the designation of his signature models as the flagship range of the Anonimo catalog.
The Dino Zei San Marco Landing Forces D-Day Countdown “doubles down” on its Italian military links. While Panerai made its name in the 1930s and 1940s with the Italian Navy’s pioneering “Decima Flottiglia MAS” amphibious forces, the Anonimo adds a nod to the modern-day Italian Navy (“Marina Militare”) San Marco Brigade. These marines and special forces represent an elite amphibious cadre whose focus on special tactics and landing operations have inspired the name of this Anonimo Dino Zei San Marco.
And the Anonimo Landing Forces D-Day Countdown looks the part. Its PVD-blackened stainless steel cushion case is built like a battleship. And the dial’s mass of readouts and calibrations looks like a navigation instrument from the bridge of the aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi.
Two time zones, an internal GMT offset bezel, a power reserve indicator, a date, and immense Panerai-style dollops of luminescent paint set the tone for this mil-spec complication, but it’s the unique 7-Day countdown timer that sets the Anonimo D-Day Countdown apart from the pack. This programmable display is linked to the central (local time) hands, and it can be set to count backward over a period from 1-7 days; a red “D” marks the end of the sequence.
Whether ramping-up for an armed invasion or avoiding another missed anniversary gift, the Anonimo Dino Zei San Marco Landing Forces D-Day Countdown has got your back.
Inside the jet-black case, a robust Soprod 9055 (ETA 2892-A2 equivalent) provides automatic winding, a 42-hour power reserve, and stop seconds (hacking) for precise synchronization of time. The secondary dual-time, date, and countdown functions are provided by a complication module built for Anonimo. A GMT inner bezel with offset calibrations for the 24 principal time zones allows a third time zone to be read instantly, and the burly case boasts 20ATM (200M=660FT) water resistance.
