Born in Kosovo, Rexhepi moved to Switzerland during his adolescent years. He honed his craft under the tutelage of experienced horologists at prestigious firms like Patek Philippe and F.P.Journe. Later, he utilized this acquired knowledge and passion to establish his own brand Akrivia. Every timepiece that comes from Akrivia embodies Rexhepi's expertise and fervor, earning him recognition as one of his generation's most gifted watchmakers. Akrivia, although a comparatively recent entrant into the watchmaking industry, has swiftly garnered acclaim and gained prestigious accolades for its exceptional creations. A noteworthy accomplishment is winning the coveted Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2018 for the Chronomètre Contemporain model. Introduced in 2017, the AK-06 represents Akrivia's first non-tourbillon model, showcasing the brand's craftsmanship and attention to detail. Its design features the hours and minutes on a sub-dial at 12 o'clock with a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock. On either side of the seconds sub-dial are the power reserve indicator and a hand-chamfered bar showing the operation of the seconds' mechanism. The watch is powered by a hand-wound movement visible through the transparent caseback, providing a display and appreciation for the meticulously finished bridges, gears, and springs and the highest attention to detail that serves as a philosophy of Rexhep’s watchmaking approach. The movement is entirely created in-house and features a 100-hour power reserve. Unlike traditional mechanical watches, the AK-06's small seconds hand stops and resets to zero when the crown is disengaged, allowing for more accurate time setting. This unique feature employs a heart-shaped cam beneath the small seconds hand, a mechanism typically seen in chronograph resetting. An added complexity in the AK-06 is the 'all-or-nothing' mechanism, conventionally found in minute repeaters to prevent incorrect chiming. The purpose here is to ensure consistent resetting of the seconds hand. This mechanism comes into play only when the crown is fully extended; then it enables the seconds hand to reset. The AK-06 represents the first instance of an 'all-or-nothing' mechanism in a time-only watch. This particular model showcases an exquisite gray open dial with a hand-hammered finish, further enhanced by flame-blued hours, minutes, and seconds hands. Encased in stainless steel, this variation is one of a mere 25 pieces crafted, solidifying its status as an extraordinarily rare creation from an artisanal brand known for its highly limited production.
