The manufacture A. Lange & Söhne, based in the small town of Glashütte in Saxony, Germany, was founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange, making it one of the oldest watch brands in the world. After the end of the Second World War and on the orders of the communist regime that took over East Germany, the brand was nationalised in 1948. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the brand was ‘reborn’ in 1994. The Lange 1 model, with its distinctive dial designed according to the golden ratio, was one of the first four models to be launched. The watch was met with great acclaim and has since been regarded as a design icon. The 'Lange 1 Moon Phase' was launched in 2002, adding a moon phase complication to the classic model.
From an important European private collection.
Watch case partly scratched and dented.
