A Retro Chic Gold Capped Zodiac Astrographic SST Mystery Dial in Superb Condition, Paired with Original Zodiac Bracelet and Sold with Original Zodiac Box, c.1969 Case Gold Plated Condition 9.5/10 Year 1969 Box/Papers Yes/No Zodiac is a historic Swiss watch brand founded in 1882 by Ariste Calame in Le Locle, Switzerland. Renowned for its precision and innovation, Zodiac quickly established itself as a pioneer in the horological world. In 1953, the brand launched the Sea Wolf, one of the first purpose-built dive watches, which became an icon among professional divers and military personnel Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Zodiac continued to innovate with models like the Astrographic and Aerospace GMT. The Astrographic was introduced in 1969, the same year as mankind's first moon landing. Zodiac designed the Astrographic during the height of the space race, a time of intense technological innovation that culminated in the historic Apollo 11 lunar landing. What's on Offer This watch was crafted as a tribute to the space age, featuring three clear discs with hour, minute, and second hands, which led to it being known as a mystery dial or mystery hand as it is not immediately apparent to the viewer how the hours and minutes advance. This example is in superb condition with an incredibly well-preserved brushed effect gold plated case with matching (and original) Zodiac bracelet. The dial is also in fantastic shape and boasts a brushed sunburst effect in steel grey with chunky 'free-floating' hands with luminous inserts and the date aperture unusually at 12 o'clock. The Zodiac emblem sits proudly at the centre of the dial. At 40mm this is no shrinking violet and has a great presence on the wrist. The watch is in great shape and is sold with its original box which is really quite rare. It is simply retro chic and any discerning fashionista or vintage watch fan should take this piece seriously - we love it!
