For sale is a spectacular Universal Geneve watch that was made in Switzerland in the 60s. This piece is a particular favourite of mine, easily being one of the finest watches that I have had the pleasure of owning.
While the watch features an elegant gold oval case, the ‘U’ signed crown and the original factory set strap, the centre of attention lies with the dial. The eye catching design is created by a row of textured vertical stripes in a colour that is truly indescribable.
The dial was produced by Lemrich, which was one of Switzerland’s oldest dial manufacturers. They worked for every major luxury Swiss watch maker before exclusively manufacturing for Rolex. In the end, the partnership was terminated after an error made by Lemrich on the Explorer ii. It’s white dial ended up unintentionally ageing into a cream colour that has now become sought after by Rolex fans. In order to best represent the stunning nature of the dial, Universal solely placed two black hands, a set of black/gold hour markers and the ‘Universal Geneve’ motif atop the dial.
Running with the Universal 42 calibre movement, this piece is not only a stunning watch, it is also a great piece of history.
To top things off, the piece is in spectacular condition. Considering its 50+ year history, it is difficult to find any issues with the watch. Even the OEM strap is in pretty good shape, something that is extraordinarily rare with these leather straps.
