1992 Tudor Submariner Ref. 79090 With Box And Papers

Why This Watch Matters You can't go wrong with a Tudor Submariner right now and these 1990s examples are heating up. A full set of box and papers does not hurt either. The Full Story Originally released by Rolex, Tudor began producing a more affordable version of the iconic Submariner in 1954. Over the decades, vintage Tudor sport watches have become more popular with collectors, and as vintage Rolex prices continue to increase, the value of these Tudors has began creeping up as well. Tudor introduced the Submariner ref. 79090 in 1989, with either a black or blue dial and a matching bezel. The example we have here is a black version from 1992, and it comes complete with its original presentation box and punched papers. A couple of cool characteristics about this Tudor is that it features a plexiglass crystal and a folded-link bracelet. Rolex stopped using folded link bracelets and plexiglass in the mid-late 1970s, but Tudor continued until the '90s. These little details give this Submariner a more vintage feel and appearance. This watch also has the depth writing on the dial as "meters first," which is reminiscent of older Rolex Submariners. The lume plots on the dial do not have white gold surrounding them, while the Rolex counterpart of the same time would have had white gold borders around each lume plot. These Tudor Subs make for great everyday watches, and examples with the original box and papers are getting harder to find all the time.
