Description

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Very rare wristwatch for diving, reference 5512, around 1959 Case: stainless steel, number 478188, rotating bezel, screw-down crown with "Pointed Guard" crown protection, inner caseback stamped "III 59", diameter approx. 40 mm Movement: automatic, lever movement, caliber 1530, 25 jewels Dial: black, luminous dots and lines, center second Accessories: stainless steel folding clasp When it was presented in 1953, the Rolex Submariner was the first series-produced diving watch. Production of reference 5512 began in 1959. One of the most striking innovations was the crown protection. This had a rectangular shape, also known as "square crown guards". After a short time, for reasons of better usability, these were replaced by the so-called "pointed crown guards" in a tapered shape. The first watches in this series were delivered with a two-row dial. This includes the possible diving depth in meters and feet as well as the model name Submariner. The two-tone lettering and the red triangle on the bezel are also indications of an early production date. The clock has corresponding signs of age and wear. The dial and the bezel show discolouration. The watch strap has been added.
