1964 Rolex Submariner Gilt Four Liner Ref. 5512 SKU : 3.2.358 Brand : Rolex Model : Submariner Gilt Four Liner Ref. No : 5512 Serial No : 1098xxx Year : 1964 Gender : Gents Case Size : 40mm Case : Excellent vintage condition case showing beautiful factory finish. The lugs remain straight and even with wide old style bevels. The Bezel is also sharp and holding a matching insert that has aged to a gun metal grey color and is retaining its pearl. Case numbers intact and fully readable. Bracelet / Strap : Very good and tight 7206 stretch Oyster bracelet showing moderate wear from age. Dial : Excellent Gilt dial with Four line print. The surface of the dial is super glossy and not showing any spidering to the naked eye. The luminous material on dial and hands has aged to a yellowish color and mostly intact. The lume light up when exposed to UV light and fall in the same rate which is correct for this era Crystal : Acrylic Dome Movement : Automatic Condition : Mint Box : No Papers : No Gilt Four Liner Offered here is a beautiful example of the iconic 5512 Submariner with gilt dial from 1964. The difference to the 5513 was an upgraded Chronometer Certified movement and the 5512 reference was the 'higher grade' Submariner at the time. To mark this enhancement the dial features an additional print marking the certification on the dial. In the case of this very version, the additional print was done in silver. The Four Liner gilt dials are very rare and popular to collectors as they mark the rarity on the dial. The rarity of 5512s compared to 5513s was much higher and there are not many nice examples around today. This very example is retained in beautiful collectors grade condition with a strong case showing beautiful bevelling on the lugs The case is strong and in honest condition. The bi-directional bezel is equally sharp and holds a faded gun metal grey insert with matching pearl. The dial is a stunner with its fully retained mirror gloss. Further the graphics on the dial have aged from the gilt color to a very dark copper color, something we have not seen very often. The lume plots are rich, puffy and almost perfectly retained. They are matching the lume on the steel hands. The bracelet is a very nice and tight 7206 Rextendable Rivit Oyster. Overall a very rare and exceptional example of a 5512 Gilt Submariner for the sophisticated collector.
