"Ovetto" or "Bubbleback," as one of the first automatic models produced by Rolex is universally known, was introduced to the market in 1933. This extraordinary timepiece is significant because it was one of the first to incorporate the auto-rotor into its mechanism, exactly one year after Rolex patented its first Perpetual. The present lot is one of the many models, specifically reference 2940. Its stainless steel case has nicely aged and was fairly preserved. The two-tone dial is very attractive, with the inner part aging to an ivory color, while the outer track features Arabic numerals. This striking combination creates a unique and appealing style.
