Rolex Explorer II 1655 'Steve McQueen' MK2
Introduced in 1971, the Rolex Explorer II Ref. 1655 featured an orange GMT hand as a day/night indicator for professionals like cavers and climbers in dark environments. It has a fixed stainless steel bezel with engraved 24-hour markings to complement the orange 24-hour hand.
The Rolex Explorer Ref. 1655 is dubbed the Steve McQueen Explorer, although this is likely a myth. Steve McQueen never wore or owned this model. He personally owned a Rolex 5512, which he wore on his right wrist, and a Heuer Monaco.
This specific 1974 Explorer II Ref. 1655 is in absolutely stunning condition, with the case still very strong and its original shapes well intact. The dial is flawless and in remarkable condition. The lume plots and hands have achieved a perfect yellow coloration that contrasts perfectly against the matte black dial.
This watch stands out with its exotic dial and bright orange 24-hour GMT hand, ensuring a refined yet striking appearance on the wrist.
