The Cosmograph Daytona, born in 1963, is one of Rolex's most popular and highest-end sports models, equipped with a movement (Cal. 4030) tuned by Rolex from Zenith's "El Primero," which is regarded as the greatest masterpiece of the 20th century, and the only manual-winding sports model. It is the first automatic Daytona, the only sports model with manual winding, which was converted to perpetual (automatic winding).

The Cal. 4030 equipped in this watch is a modified version of Zenith's El Primero Cal. 400, detuned from 10 vibrations per second to 8, with a larger balance for improved stability and a microstella screw to microstella nut for the adjustment mechanism, which has succeeded in increasing precision and achieving a high level of accuracy and durability.
