For sale is a Rolex Day-Date 36mm Ref. 18248 from 1991 with the less common Bark finish Bezel & Bark finish centre links on the President bracelet.
Ferrite Dial:
In addition to the unique bark finish, this Day-Date 18248 features an the amazing all-original Ferrite Stone Dial in perfect condition.
The ferrite stone dial is made from a specific type of iron oxide which has naturally occurring stone-like finish with a dark metallic black and grey striations.
Ferrite is highly resistant to corrosion and has magnetic properties which gives the dial its unique texture and appearance. The dial is adorned with 18k yellow gold Roman numerals hour markers making the dial very legible and easy to read.
The natural variations in the material create a unique pattern for each dial, making every watch one-of-a-kind. This example is hands-down the best one we have come across. The stone pattern is vibrant and glitters in the light, giving off a diamond-like shine.
Stone dials tend to be quite fragile which has lead to many of them cracking and becoming damaged over the years. Consequently a flawless stone dial - such as this - will greatly increase the value of the watch and will remain highly sought after over other similar examples with imperfections.
Bark Finish:
Rolex Day-Date "Bark" watches are a distinct variation of the iconic Rolex Day-Date model. The "Bark" nickname refers to the unique texture which resembles the bark of a tree. This texture can be seen on the bezel and the centre links of the president bracelet. The pattern is created through a specialized technique that gives the watch a distinctive and tactile aesthetic.
Day and Date Display:
The Day-Date is also known as the "President" due to its association with world leaders and influential figures derives. Staying true to the Day-Date lineage, these models feature a day display at the 12 o’clock position and a date display at the 3 o’clock position. This being an 18248 model, it features a quickset function for both the day and the date which allows for easy setting.
