The launch of the Oysterquartz was a statement as Rolex didn't just want to launch a Quartz watch because everyone else did, they wanted to launch a something special, something different. Rolex went out of their way to develop a robust and sturdy Quartz movement with beautiful finishing. Developments started in 1972 already and Rolex designed a completely new watch with a new in-house movement. The Oysterquartz was born in 1978 in different metals. It was not only the first Quartz watch but also the first Stainless steel watch with a Sapphire crystal. The completely angular case with integrated bracelet was a novelty. It is believed that not more than 25,000 Quartz watches were manufactured until they were discontinued in 2001. This very example of the full stainless steel Reference 17000 is in mint condition with a unpolished case and bracelet hardly showing any wear from age. One can see the original factory finish chamfers which add so much to the look of this watchThe case back sticker is still fully present showing that the watch hardly have any wrist time. The silver dial is in excellent condition retaining all original luminous and matching the hands with a beautiful creamy patina. Examples in this condition just don't come up much and we are happy to have this in stock.
