Description
Launched in 1992, the Ref. 5040 was Patek Philippe's first tonneau-shaped Perpetual Calendar, which has a perpetual calendar with moon phase identical to the more classically styled Ref. 3940, and the Cal. 240, a self-winding movement with micro-rotor. The Ref. 5040 was produced until 2007 through the first series with a six-digit movement number beginning with 77, which included the Cal. 240/114, and the second series with a seven-digit movement number beginning with 312, which included the Cal. 240/116. This particular piece is engraved with a movement number beginning with 312, but is equipped with a Cal. 240/114 and appears to have been produced during the transitional period of the series.
