The rarest version - the platinum models - were delivered only with the plain snap on case back, whereas the other case versions were available with both solid and glazed back. Reference 3940 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, pages 292 - 293.
