Few watches have the iconic status of the steel Nautilus, which was first launched by Patek Philippe forty-five years ago in 1976. Showcasing a tactile rugged design that was inspired by the structure and hinges of a ship's porthole, this was something completely fresh and new. Wristwatches made from steel were also something of a novelty from Patek Philippe, with precious platinum and gold being favoured for the majority of their creations. The Nautilus family has grown massively over the past decades, with numerous models being added, and the initial steel 3700/1A reference being replaced by the 5711/1A in 2006. With this last reference being discontinued at the beginning of 2021, Patek Philippe have decided to honour this icon in steel with a vibrant new dial that will be produced for one year only. Water resistant to 120m, this model continues its original marine theme and showcases a stunning sunburst olive green dial, which perfectly captures the colours of the sun- drenched Mediterranean Sea. A 40mm case size ensures this piece will have an elegant presence on the wrist, and can be worn effortlessly from a casual lunch to a black tie event. The famous self- winding calibre 26-330 S C has a strong association with the Nautilus family and powers this model, offering a maximum 45 hour power reserve.
