At the time, Golay was working as a régleur in the esteemed atelier of Fils de Victorin-Piguet, a part of the prestigious Patek Philippe group of companies. Régleurs in the 1950s, like Golay, were highly skilled artisans who possessed the ability to assemble, adjust mechanical watches to unparalleled levels of accuracy. The ensured accuracy, calibrated movements and possessed expertise in complications. This particular Ref. 1463 was made in the Patek Philippe manufacture and intended for Golay’s personal use, explaining why it is encased in steel rather than a precious metal. The combination of the steel case and asthmometer dial makes this timepiece truly one-of-a-kind. It’s worth noting that the case of this watch does not bear a serial number. This is because Golay crafted it for his own personal enjoyment, rather than for commercial sale.
