The 5172 is Patek Philippe's most recent manually-wound chronograph reference. While it's the most contemporary reference, however, it draws inspiration from various different vintage references and designs. Most notably, the case features more complex construction with stepped lugs and engine-turned pump pushers. The syringe hands, inspired by more technical chronograph designs, lend the watch a sportier feel. The movement is the tried-and-tested CH 29-535 PS, the same movement present in the 5170. It's an in-house manufactured calibre, resplendent with the best finishing that the Swiss watch industry can offer. Notably, the subdials on this chronograph sit at 4 and 8 o'clock, balancing out the placement of the logo at 12 o'clock. Adding to the vintage feel is Patek's use of a salmon dial, set against a white metal case.
