In 2010, Patek Philippe succeeded the 5070 series with the 5170J in yellow gold, marking the debut of their in-house CH 29-535 PS manually wound chronograph caliber. This caliber, with a 65-hour power reserve and exquisite finishing, was among the first to receive the new Patek Philippe “PP” quality seal after a five-year development. The 5170J’s case, about 3mm shorter than its predecessor, resembles the Calatrava line in shape, featuring a dial with Roman numerals at 12 and 6 and gold baton markers. Subsequent variations include the 5170G-001 in white gold with Breguet-style numerals (2013), a black dial version (5170G-010) in 2015, and rose gold models (5170R-001 and 5170R-010) in 2016. The series culminated in 2018 with the platinum 5170P-001, featuring a gradated blue dial and diamond hour markers, before being replaced by the 5172 series in 2019.
The Patek Philippe 5172G-010 Chronograph is cherished as a masterpiece of timeless elegance and precision engineering. Crafted in 18k white gold, this watch exudes a refined sophistication that is instantly recognizable. The 41mm case, polished to perfection, showcases the meticulous attention to detail that Patek Philippe is known for.
The dial, a striking rose-gilt opaline, is admired for its depth and vibrancy. Charcoal gray gold applied numerals, coated with luminescent material, ensure legibility in all lighting conditions. The tachymeter scale enhances both its functionality and aesthetic appeal, making it ideal for precise timekeeping. The chronograph subdials, positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock, add a balanced symmetry to the dial, further elevating its elegant design.
At the heart is the manually wound Caliber CH 29-535 PS movement, which is celebrated for its reliability and precision. This in-house movement is composed of 270 meticulously finished parts, demonstrating Patek Philippe’s unparalleled craftsmanship. The transparent sapphire case back allows the wearer to admire the intricate workings of the movement, a testament to the brand’s horological excellence.
The watch is adorned with luxurious Alligator leather with square scales, hand-stitched, shiny chocolate brown, adding a touch of elegance and comfort. The strap is secured with a white gold fold-over clasp, ensuring a secure and sophisticated fit.
