According to the Patek Philippe website archived on the Wayback Machine circa 1998, near this watch’s purchase date: “Our Calatrava collection is named after the ornate cross that is the company's symbol. The refinement and control of the Calatrava's classic design convey much of the discretion and understated power that keep Patek Philippe at the pinnacle of the watchmaker's art.”
