Description

1967 Omega Speedmaster Reference 145.012 'Ultraman' Why This Watch Matters This rare Speedmaster with an orange seconds hand got its nickname because of its guest appearance on the Japanese series "Ultraman"; it offers everything we love about the reference 145.012, plus a bit more. The Full Story The reference 145.012 was the last Speedmaster model to be powered by the revered caliber 321. Of those produced, only a very small fraction came with this attractive orange seconds hand. It is generally accepted that a genuine “Ultraman” model must date from 1967, and that its movement number should fall in the 3,000-unit range, between 26.076.XXX and 26.079.XXX. This example easily meets these criteria, and offers a stunning stepped dial without any noticeable imperfections. On the wrist, the 42mm case with lyre lugs looks killer, and the orange hand brings the dash of audacity that sets the "Ultraman" apart from other early Speedies. The case displays some superficial scratches, but the lyre lugs remain clearly defined. The indexes on the stepped dial have taken on a very nice patina, while the lume on the hands aged slightly darker by comparison. The watch still features the original “Dot-Over-Ninety” bezel, though the pushers might be replacement parts. This is a stunning example of a sought after reference.
