Speedmaster Moonwatch
311.33.42.50.01.001
The Omega Speedmaster, also known as the legendary “Moonwatch”, is one of the most iconic and distinguished collections ever made. It is best known for its work with NASA as the officially sanctioned chronograph for use in space. First certified as such in 1965, it was used by astronauts in Gemini and early Apollo missions, who became so attached to it that they refused the upgraded MkII when it was made in 1968, sticking with the original that they knew and loved. The Speedmaster went on to be used not just on the moon, but in many other missions both in space and on Earth. Despite all this, the watch was never built with spaceflight in mind. Instead, it was launched in 1957 with sportsmen and drivers as the target audience. This limited edition Speedy was made in 1,957 pieces to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this release.
