Omega Genève Dynamic III with earlier Tritium dial A good, wearable example of the Omega Dynamic III – a short lived and under rated Omega from the nineties. Model reference 5200.50.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the bottom lug we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1997. The Dynamic III was only available for a few years, starting from 1997
CONDITION
The serial number is one way to tell this is an early Dynamic III, but there is another way. Mid way through the short product life, the lume material was switched from Tritium to Luminova. The earlier tritium dials, like we have here, has a yellow tinge to them and the later dials the numerals look more white. Inside the stainless steel case, and behind a dust cover, is Calibre 1108 – an automatic movement with quick set date, heavily based on an ETA automatic movement. Everything is running well. The sapphire crystal is overall good, but there is a small chip on the left hand side and a scratch heading towards five. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. Originally these watches came on brown straps, in a further calling back to the military Omega watches of the 40’s and 50’s that inspired the design.
At time of press we have another Dynamic III, with the bracelet and box and papers. Overall that is the collectors grade choice, but it is also significantly more expensive. This watch allows you to have a perfectly good watch for less money.
