The Louis Vuitton Monterey II watch was one of the first ceramic watches ever made and one of the few female designed watches, designed by Gae Aulenti and released in 1988. The watch is unusual in that the crown protrudes from the top of the case, earning it the nickname unicorn. The dial is also unique, with Arabic numerals for the hours in the middle encircled by a railroad track for minutes, and the date numerals in bright red occupying the outer perimeter.. The watch does not have lugs, instead, a single-piece strap is pulled through the back of the watch.
